Place des Arts' Spring Break Camp is back from March 26 to April 1. This camp offers a wide array of exciting activities such as a one-day circus camp and classes in musical exploration, comic books & cartooning, clay play, tap dance, drawing & painting and much more.

Friday, March 26: Run Away and Join the Circus! SOLD OUT! Kindergarten - Grade 5 Juggling, clowning, tumbling, mask making and circus-themed visual art will keep kids entertained for a full day in this fun, one-day-only circus camp!
Monday March 29 to Thursday April 1: Spring Break Art Camp
Kindergarteners: SOLD OUT! Grades 1 to 5 can choose from 6 blocks full of activities. Grades 6 - 8 can take from 1 to 4 days of full-day intensive workshops.
The Circus camp and Spring Break camp run from 8:45am to 3:45pm each day. After hours care is available by request until 5:00 pm. Small class sizes ensure that students receive quality time with their teachers. Please refer to the timetable for the content of each block.

Full payment of program fees must be made at the time of registration. No refunds or transfers will be granted. Exceptions for medical or compassionate reasons may be considered.

Spring Break Camp Activities
Kindergarten: Sold Out! Clay Play, Doodlers, Fibre Fun, Cartooning, Musical Exploration & Hip Hop (see below for full descriptions).
Grades 1-5 Students in grades 1 to 5 choose one of six full-day blocks that run Monday - Thursday. Each block has six classes of activities. Read on for full descriptions or click here for a PDF version of the camp brochure.
Broadway Review Shake, rattle and roll! Learn current Broadway hits from Mama Mia, Rent, High School Musical and Wicked and put them to jazzy dance moves. Parents are invited to a show and tell on the last day. Instructor: Deb Solberg
Cartooning Learn to design your own comic characters! You'll learn to draw characters, from humans to cute animals and more, and then bring them to life in their own comic strips. Instructor: Kenten Bowick
Clay Play Use your imagination to create a hand-built project each day. Projects created on Monday and Tuesday will be kiln-fired, while other days will feature non-fired creations. All projects will be painted and completed by Thursday. Bring a large cardboard box for taking finished work home. Instructor: Elaine Hansen
Collage Explore a variety of textures and colours by combining cut-out glossy magazines, tissue paper, fabric, beads, feathers, sparkles and much more to create unique projects. Drawing and some painting will be part of the creative process in this fun class. Instructor: Olga Pirogova
Comic Books Learn to make your own comic books! You'll create your own characters, write and draw a story (in pencil and then in ink) and then make copies, folded and stapled. Instructor: Kenten Bowick
Doodlers This set of hands-on drawing and painting art projects will take you step by step through the process of creating an exciting mixed-media, spring-themed work of art. You will develop a series of individual drawing and painting projects that will become part of a larger piece of art work. Instructor: Stan Hunc
Drama Come and join the drama club! Play theatre games, tell stories and act out fun mini plays. Bring your creative ideas and enjoy the excitement of drama. Instructor: James O'Shea
Fibre Fun Explore the fibre arts and create your own beautiful and functional one-of-a-kind treasures. Make new projects each day using weaving, felting, spinning & dyeing techniques. You'll gain hands-on experience, developing colour sense and an understanding of how different fibres can be transformed. Instructor: Catherine Dumaine
Hip Hop Dance along to a groovy beat, play coordination games and learn how to set your moves to music in a fun environment. Bring a bottle of water and a solid pair of clean running shoes. Instructor: Joey Browne
Musical Exploration Come celebrate spring and have fun learning a variety of songs and games while discovering fundamental musical concepts. We will explore movement and musical accompaniment to develop a story and add pictures and text to complete our story/songs. Instructor: Beverly Dobrinsky
Papier Mâché Puppets Create your very own zany puppet characters. You'll make the head of these rod puppets using papier mâché and form the body and hands from fabrics and felt. Instructor: Liz Summerfield
Rhythm Makers Have fun beating out rhythms on different objects with various parts of your body and then creating the same rhythms with your tap shoes. Learn choreography and musical phrasing in this fun and interactive hands-on dancestyle that will develop your creativity. Instructor: Kristen Pickell
Shoe Box Diorama Draw, colour, paint and collage as you create an under-the-sea-themed shoe-box diorama! Create fish, seaweed, rocks, submarines and whatever else your imagination can dream up. Then hang your creations in a beautiful underwater world. Instructor: Christina Froschauer
Taiko Drumming Experience the choreographed physicality of martial arts with the heart-stopping pulse of the ancient Japanese Taiko drum. Learn basic drumming, breathing and stick techniques (the Kihon) along with accompanying rhythms. You'll develop a short choreographed piece with arm movements and multiple drum parts. Grades 6 to 8 (One-day intensive workshops - Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur)
Students in grades 6 to 8 choose one of four full-day blocks on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. They may participate in any or all days. The activities include the following:
Song Writing (Monday, March 29) Whether you're a musician or not, bring your creative energy to this class. You'll develop basic song writing skills and come away having created a song of your very own. No formal music training is required, just lots of imagination and a desire to express your ideas in song. Instructor: Mark Vescovi
Find your voice! (Tuesday, March 30) Sold Out! A day full of music, singing, breathing, public speaking and performing practice! Finding the right song is like finding the right outfit, one that fits your range, your passion and your style - this class will help you find your perfect song! All singing fundamentals will be covered. Instructor: Dr. Gina Oh
Woven Wire (Wednesday, March 31) Create a beautiful and unique three-piece mesh jewelry set in this one-day wire crochet workshop. Weave beads and learn basic jewelry techniques as you design your spring collection. This workshop is suitable for beginners or novices in crochet. Instructor: Amanda Maxwell
On Camera Commercial Workshop (Thursday, April 1) Lights - Camera - Audition! Learn, laugh and act in this informative on-camera commercial workshop. Ignite your creativity, build your self-confidence & unleash the superstar within! Instructor: Bryn Erin
