   Parents interested in learning about the popular Music for Young Children® program are invited to an MYC® open house at Place des Arts. Enthusiastic teacher Cindy Sletmoen will be available to answer questions about this unique Canadian music program designed to foster and nurture musicality among youngsters. Registration for 2013-14 classes will be open this day.

   Music for Young Children instruction is provided to students ages 4-9 in four levels – keyboard skills, singing, ear training, rhythm, theory, sight-reading and composing – through dynamic, hands-on teaching techniques. Please note that parental participation is required in this program and a keyboard must be present at home for students to practice. Call 604.664.1636 for more information.

   What exactly does a Concertmaster do, besides play the violin at the front of the orchestra?  Go behind the scenes of orchestral life with VSO Concertmaster Dale Barltrop who will delve into the intricacies of his role in and out of the orchestra. You will also hear him speak about and perform some of the most famous concertmaster solos in the repertoire.

   Please join us for the opening reception for three new multiple media exhibitions: APEx (Arts, Performances & Exhibitions): Alumni Exhibition in the Mezzanine Gallery featuring Place des Arts Alumni, APEx: Student Show in the Atrium Gallery by Place des Arts 2012-2013 Students and Images and Ideas in the Leonore Peyton Salon by Place des Arts Art Enhancement Students. All are welcome to drop by the opening reception to view the artworks and speak to the artists!

   Opening Reception: Thursday, June 6, 2013, 7-9pm

   The evening will feature complimentary appetizers, live performances by student musicians and a cash wine bar. Place des Arts partner, Papergirl Vancouver is hosting a free printing workshop for visitors for the duration of the reception.  This is also a public weaving session for Place des Arts' Social Fabric Project, a collaborative community project celebrating Place des Arts' 40th anniversary.
