Monica Pfau – Piano, Theory
An accomplished soloist and chamber musician, pianist Monica Pfau has performed on a variety of stages in North America and Europe. She has recorded for the CBC Vancouver Orchestra under Mario Bernardi, the Vancouver Symphony under Kazuyoshi Akiyama, the National Film Board of Canada, and has been a frequent performer on CBC Radio’s Westcoast Performance.
Ms. Pfau’s early studies were with Dr. Robin Wood at the UVic School of Music, where she was presented with the prestigious Victoria Medal. Winner of numerous national awards, including the Royal Conservatory Performer's Gold Medal, Monica was awarded a German Academic Exchange Scholarship to the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, and was later appointed Accompanist-in-Residence at the Banff Centre where she performed with such renowned artists as Janos Starker and the Fine Arts Quartet.
After winning First Prize in the UBC Concerto Competition, Monica accepted a Doctoral Fellowship from the UBC Faculty of Music and has since been active in the Lower Mainland as a teacher, adjudicator and performer, collaborating with the city's finest musicians in recitals.
