Roger Mangas – Violin, Viola
Roger began his musical training in Indiana. He accepted a Graduate Teaching Assistantship to the University of Western Ontario and a Fellowship to the University of Victoria, where he completed his Master of Music degree in Performance.
Winner of numerous awards in both solo & chamber music competitions, Roger has toured extensively with his string and piano quartets, performing on CBC Radio and television.
His mentors include Jaroslav Karlovsky (Prague String Quartet), Paul Kling (Vienna Symphony), Josef Kodousek (Vlach String Quartet), William Primrose, and the Fine Arts String Quartet (USA).
As a member of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Roger currently enjoys an active performing & teaching career, often freelancing with the Vancouver Symphony, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, playing for movie soundtracks or, in 2010, performing for the Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympics.
Roger enjoys teaching all levels of students, from beginner to advanced, and coaches the Place des Arts Intermediate String Quartet. His students include winners of the VYSO Concerto Competition, the Burnaby Clef Concerto Competition & the National Youth Orchestra auditions.
