Teresa Richert – Piano, Theory and Composition

Teresa has ARCT diplomas in piano performance, piano teaching and composition & theory from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her senior-level music teachers include Edward Parker, Ellen Tso, Keiko Parker, Stephen Brown and Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa. She also holds Bachelor of Science and Applied Science degrees from Simon Fraser University.

Teresa has taught piano and theory for 25 years. She exposes her students to a wide variety of repertory and incorporates technique and musicianship training (theory, ear training, sight reading, etc.) in their lessons. Students have the opportunity to participate in festivals, recitals, student concerts, master classes, composition competitions and conservatory examinations.

Teresa also composes music for piano, voice and other solo instruments, orchestra and chamber ensembles. Over twenty of her piano compositions are published in the BC Conservatory of Music and Canadian National Conservatory of Music repertory books. Her compositions have been performed by professional and amateur musicians across the country.

Teresa is dedicated to music and the music teaching profession. She is a former president of the BC Registered Music Teachers Coquitlam-Maple Ridge Branch (2008 – 2011), a founding coordinator of the branch's annual North Fraser Music Festival (2001 – 2008), and a former Music for Young Children® teacher.  She is also a member of the Association of Canadian Women Composers, Vancouver Pro Musica, the Canadian New Music Network and SOCAN.  She recently joined the composers collective Red Leaf Pianoworks, a group of composers from across Canada with a mission to provide new and exciting repertory for piano students.
