The Creative Team

Director: Melissa Oei
Melissa is accomplished actor and theatre professional who most recently appeared as “L” in Daniel MacIvor’s A Beautiful View for which she has was nominated for a Jessie Richardson Theatre Award for Outstanding Performance. She is a graduate of the renowned acting conservatory at Studio 58, Langara College’s Film Arts Program and Capilano University’s Theatre Arts Program.

Melissa has taught drama to young people for many years at Bard on the Beach and Carousel Theatre for Young People, including four summers as Assistant Instructor with CTYP’s Teen Shakespeare Program. Melissa is thrilled to be working with the team at Place des Arts and these 11 wonderful young actors.

The Company

Devon ChungDevon Chung
Devon is excited to be performing in Romeo and Juliet for the second time as his sixth theatre production. Devon has been doing improvised theatre for five years and scripted theatre for three years. Recently, he performed in Star Wars Shakespeare as Luke Skywalker and Crybaby the Musical as Father Officer O'Brien.

Kate CousinsKate Cousins
Kate is thrilled to be working with Place des Arts for Romeo and Juliet. Kate has been in many Shakespeare shows such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night and other contemporary plays for the last four years with her high school's theatre department, Treehouse Theatre.

Samantha KerrSamantha Kerr
Samantha loves performing! She plays piano, flute and trumpet, sings in two choirs and does ballet, jazz, lyrical and tap dance. Sam has appeared in many Young Actors Project videos on YouTube and her most recent stage performances were as Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Deborah Sue in Bye Bye Birdie at Charles Best Secondary.

Julie MacLeanJulia MacLean
Julia is excited that her first foray into Shakespeare will be Romeo and Juliette. Past credits include Patrice in 13 The Musical, Amy in Little Woman, Mary-Beth in A Christmas Story, Tracey Atkinson in Billy Elliott, Flounder in Disney's The Little Mermaid and Annie in Annie.

Javid NouripourJavid Nouripour
Javid is very much in anticipation for this play. It is his first play in a large production outside of Riverside High School. At school, Javid played in two noteworthy productions, namely Silver's Secret and The Arrangement. He has also played Tom Collins in Rent. Javid also takes part in the unofficial music composition/production group at Riverside.

Elizabeth PunshonElizabeth Punshon

Elizabeth is very excited to be in Romeo and Juliet; this will be her first production out of high school. Elizabeth has always been a huge fan of the arts. She acts, sings and plays 8 internments! Some shows she has been in include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Delview Secondary Theatre Company), To Sir with Love (Delview Secondary Theatre Company) and The Mute, a show written and directed by Elizabeth herself! 

Parsa SamaniParsa Samani

This is Parsa’s first time working with Place des Arts. Parsa is in grade eleven and age 16. He has previously performed in Pinetree’s Crybaby!, their metfest performance of Mobrat Elementary, Shakespeare’s Starwars and more. He is excited to perform and is grateful for the opportunity.

Margi StonerMargi Stoner

Margi Stoner is ecstatic to be joining the Romeo and Juliet ensemble. They have been a part of The Best Players as an actor in The Government Inspector (2017) and backstage manager of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2018) and performed as Julia Glbbs in Our Town (CYT). They hope you enjoy the show! 

Cassandra TedescoCassandra Tedesco

Cassandra has lived in Port Coquitlam all her life and has always been a fan of live theater, but never had an opportunity like this to participate. Some of her favorite plays are Waitress and 9 to 5. She is very excited to be part of Romeo and Juliet, as this is her first performance!

Shayla TedescoShayla Tedesco

Shayla is 17 years old, an honour roll student, and she has lived in PoCo her whole life. Her interests include writing short stories, digitally drawing and creating characters based off fictional universes. In her spare time, she listens to music, watches animated movies and shows, and she adores spending time with her younger sister.

Emily TrepanierEmily Trepanier

Emily is thrilled to be involved with Place des Arts' production of Romeo and Juliet. Previously, she has been in Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew as Bianca, as well as A Midsummer Night’s Dream as Hippolyta, both with The Best Players. Additionally, she is a lifeguard, a swim coach and a member of the Charles Best swim team and the Coquitlam Sharks Aquatic Club.
